Frequently Asked Questions

The major difference between the three titles are qualifications and registrations. Dietitians are the only health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary nutritional problems at an individual level. The term Dietitian is protected in most countries and can only be used by a person holding a recognised degree in Dietetics. Dietitians are held to a code of practise and are required to undertake continual training and development to maintain registration. In the UK you must be registered with the Health & Care Professionals Council to use the title Dietitian.

Nutritionists are able to provided general advise on healthy eating but not relating to individual medical conditions. Nutritionist is not a protected title meaning anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. For people who have studied nutrition through an approved course ie a higher standard are eligible to be registered on voluntary nutrition registers and are then eligible to use the title Registered Nutritionist. These vary from country to country. It is always recommended to ask for the qualifications of the person that you are seeking advise and ensure that they meet the standards for registration.

A nutritional therapist is not eligible for registration as either a Dietitian or Registered Nutritionist. Nutritional therapists will generally provide advice on complementary or holistic medicines and not recognised as valid treatment by traditional medicine.

Costs vary for the type of services offered. For costs associated with individual consultations see the services page. For all group, corporate and food industry engagements please contact us for further pricing.
